Ebook About
WestonWhen I left home, I swore I’d never hide anything about myself again. From college, to law school, to the United States Senate representing California, I’ve done it all as an out gay man. So, when I’m in DC and see a beautiful guy at the hotel bar, I don’t hesitate to proposition him…right before he runs out on me, leaving his sunglasses behind like my very own Cinderfella.AnsonI’ve always known I’m gay, but never acted on it. Pretending isn’t easy, but it means I can keep playing football. No one has ever guessed my secret until the gorgeous man at a bar in DC. At least he doesn’t know who I am—the best tight end in the NFL, playing for the Atlanta Lightning. Though my identity doesn’t stay a secret from him for long.Between texts and late-night phone calls, we get to know each other. West’s the only person who knows all the parts of me, just like I know his. When he asks for one night together so he can show me what it’s like to be with a man, I can’t say no. But once isn’t enough, and we keep sneaking around together—brief encounters, in California, Georgia, or DC, filled with passionate touches and whispered truths.I never thought I’d have love. West never thought he’d want it. Now we’re all in with each other, but he still has time left in his Senate term. I have contract obligations to fulfill, and I’m closeted. We don’t even live in the same state. The odds are stacked against us, but if there’s one thing I know, it’s how to win. He’s the endgame in the biggest challenge of my life, the one I’m banking my future happiness on.

Book The Endgame (Atlanta Lightning Book 1) Review :

Books about coming out, particularly ones that take place in the world of sports, have a couple pitfalls they can easily fall into, and Riley Hart neatly avoids them in The Endgame, which is the best "coming out" book I've read in a very long time, or possibly ever. For one thing, Weston, the "out" partner in this romance, never pushes Anson, the closeted football player, into coming out. Too often in books, staying in the closet is portrayed as a personal failure, or an act of cowardice, when there are often real considerations that prevent it. Weston manages to be supportive without being pushy, and Anson's actions mean a lot more than they would if Weston had given him an ultimatum.Another pitfall some authors fall into is writing about jocks while quite openly despising jocks. Hart also neatly avoids this one, as Anson is just one of the most admirable, kind, brave characters I can remember reading about. His friend Darren is also portrayed as a genuinely great guy. I know the stereotype of jocks as being callous jerks has some basis in reality, but it's also just that: a stereotype. There are jocks who are wonderful people; I've known some in my life, and it's always sort of irritating to read a book that takes place in the sports world by an author who clearly hates sports, and athletes. In fact, if anything, I really liked Anson a lot more than Weston, who came across like a cocky jerk, especially at first. My one gripe with the book was that I'm not sure what purpose making Weston a US senator really served, as it was only occasionally mentioned and would probably have been a bigger deal than it seemed in the book. Don't get me wrong, I was FINE with it not being mentioned all that often; this book was Anson's story, a couple side plots involving Weston and his friends and family notwithstanding. I liked Weston because he made Anson happy, and gave him the strength to be an even better person.Anyway, this one comes highly recommended by me. I like a good "coming out" book and this one exceeded expectations.
Anticipation is the name of the game here! The slow burn between Anson and Weston was written so well that not once did I find it too long or dragged out. I devoured every word out of their mouths as I anticipated how explosive it would be when they finally came together. It was so worth the wait! They are both really the sweetest guys who deserve this beautiful love that they found with each other. Weston seems like a guy who just wants to keep it casual with relationships, but Anson soon learns that Weston is really a man with deep feelings and a big heart. Despite his fears and uncertainty, Anson wants a future with Weston, who realizes that he can't help falling for Anson. While he thinks he is helping Anson be his true self, the truth is that Anson is the one who shows Weston what it really means open yourself up to loving someone and being loved. He makes Weston see that he is a truly good person that is worth loving, no matter the price. There are so many touching moments in this book. This is seriously one of my favorite books this year! Thanks for such a beautiful book Riley Hart!I did receive a copy of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review. I also ordered my own copy so you can tell how much I loved it!
